For years, HBO has been one of the most popular premium channels to add to your cable subscription. And now, as streaming services continue to expand, there are even more ways to watch HBO without a traditional TV plan.
The easiest method is to sign up for an HBO Max subscription, and the streaming service is even available as an add-on to other existing platforms, like Hulu.
Hulu's HBO Max add-on costs the same as the standalone HBO Max service. The only difference is you pay for HBO Max each month alongside your Hulu plan, and you can access most HBO content directly through Hulu. This makes it easy to consolidate apps and accounts.
If you want to watch your favorite HBO content, both new and old, here's how you can with your Hulu plan.
How much is HBO Max on Hulu?
If you want to get HBO on Hulu, the best option is the HBO Max add-on, which costs $15 a month on top of your existing Hulu subscription. Hulu itself starts at $6 a month for the ad-supported plan. You can find a full breakdown of Hulu packages and prices here.
The add-on will get you all your favorite shows and movies from HBO, along with the ability to sign into the HBO Max app for even more content.
Hulu also offers a more limited "HBO" add-on for the same price. As the missing "Max" in the name implies, this add-on doesn't come with access to HBO Max. Since both options actually cost the same amount of money, it's a no brainer to get the HBO Max add-on instead of just "HBO."

What's included with HBO Max on Hulu?
The HBO Max add-on gives you on-demand access to everything on HBO directly through the Hulu app. You can even watch live HBO streams through Hulu on supported devices. Subscribers to the add-on can also use their Hulu account information to log into the HBO Max app for even more content.
Most HBO premieres will be available on Hulu within minutes of the episode airing on the cable channel. You can also watch nearly all of HBO's classic programming on-demand. Naturally, the entire catalog of "Game of Thrones" is available if you want to obsessively watch it on a loop so you've memorized every detail by the time the much-anticipated prequel drops.
If you want to diversify your binging, you can catch up on shows that are between seasons, like "Westworld" and "Barry." Or you can revisit some of the classics that made HBO a household name, like "The Sopranos," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Wire," "Sex and the City," and so many more.
Meanwhile, if you switch to the HBO Max app you can stream an even larger selection of shows and movies. Most notably, HBO Max offers new movies from Warner Bros. on the same day they hit theaters. This includes upcoming releases like "Godzilla vs. Kong" on March 31. Right now, you can stream the animated feature "Tom and Jerry."
The add-on also lets you stream HBO Max originals, such as "The Flight Attendant" and "Raised by Wolves." Plus, we can't forget to mention all the additional movies available through HBO Max — HBO does stand for Home Box Office after all. Recent releases like "Joker," "The King of Staten Island," and "Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn" sit alongside nostalgic gems like "Billy Elliot," "Kill Bill: Vol. 1," "City of God," and "Cast Away."
Can I watch HBO Max content through the Hulu app?
You can't watch HBO Max content directly through the Hulu app. Although the HBO Max add-on will make it easier to pay for Hulu and HBO Max in one bill, you'll have to download the HBO Max app to watch exclusive HBO Max titles.
You can think of the add-on as a bundle. You get HBO directly through Hulu, along with access to the separate HBO Max app as a bonus — all under the same payment plan.
